Robert's Google+

The greatest gift of all is "land filled with milk and honey"

We can all assume our parent taught us eating more vegetables for our health. Ironically, they never really taught us the whole picture. This is not an article that cover everything more of nagging you to recognize all these fruits and vegetables are a blessing.

Okra lady finger

1. Okra / Lady Finger

In a way that it has more similarity to a fruit than vegetable. A pod that containing seed. Eating okra is equivalent eating fruit. Asian love stir fried lady finger with garlic and little bit of chili than eating it raw or boil.

You could get a taste of authentic lady finger dish in any Malaysian "Nasi Kandar" restaurant when available.

Bird eye Chili

2. Bird's Eye Chili

Do you know that Bird's Eye Chili is actually a fruit ?. This is because it contains the seed more or less like a pod. Of course, some of us do not like to eat it. That is the reason why god give us tomato a rival of Chili that what I love to believe.

Can you put bird eye chili and tomato in a same dish ? It is truly sad to agree not all god's creation are meant to blend well together !

Carrot

3. Carrot

Basically it is a tuber. harvest it underneath soil. Frankly speaking, carrot is a giant stem storing all the natural nutrients under the soil. It cant be classified as fruit due to lack of seed and does not grow out of a tree.

Potato

4. Potato

I think some of us confuse potato and french fries in some point of our life. It actually a same thing. I do not know why it widely called as french fries instead of potato fries. It is so confusing ! Due to potato does not contain any seed so it safe to say it is a vegetable stem. We should eat more potato and treat it as a kind of vegetable.

Brinjal Eggplant

5. Eggplant / Brinjal

The king of "vegetable". I seriously think Eggplant should be classified as a fruit. I am a huge fan of eggplant. No one treat it raw and often cook with oil in many variety.

sweet potato

6. Sweet Potato

There are many differences between potato and sweet potato. Firstly, sweet potato is reddish even when skin is peeled off. Sweet potato has this long oval shape and rough surface unlike the potato usually round and fine surface.

Sweet potato is largely popular at Japan and South Korean as opposed to potato. They believe eating sweet potato is good for skin.

Pineapple

7. Pineapple

Historically, people has been crazy about pineapple due to scarce availability and often a dish only on royal dining table in China once upon time. I am very grateful able to taste it in my short lifetime at a grand seafood restaurant that serve pineapple fried rice. Yummy !

large yam

8. Yam

Yam is a large tuber than potato and sweet potato. Behold your eye on this heavy yam ! Yam is much more easily recognized than the rest. Outside of yam is a rough surface whereas, Inside of yam is pure white.

Chili Pepper

9. Chili Pepper

This is some fantastic discovery ever in human food history. This delicious-looking fruit has three distinctive color. Green, yellow and red. Do not fool by it colors, It is the same fruit. I am laughing so hard because once believe that three of them are different fruits.

Vegetable

10. Broccoli

Brocoli is a new trend in vegetable world after discovery of substances hidden in Broccoli could save life before getting diabetes or cancer.

Pay Your PTPTN Loan 2017

Pay your PTPTN loan through FPX & Maybank2u

I have written a guide back in 2013 how to pay your PTPTN debt >> link here

Due to some changes in PTPTN website in 2017, my 2013 guide is pretty much obsolete.

What You need before performing pay your PTPTN loan through FPX & Maybank2u :

1. Internet connection
2. PTPTN ID & Pass ( you will get this during semester 1 with the help of your lecturer )
3. Maybank2u online banking account (any online banking will do such as CIMB or RHB )
4. A savings of more or less RM 500 ( the reason Why I put more than the required monthly payment amount because "save for rainy days ?" )
5. A mobile phone ( Receiving secret code )

As you search PTPTN on Google, often you will be directed to the above webpage where there are so many other options. Click the one with blue arrow. It means "check your loan balance" in Malaysia language.

Anyone reading to the point that trigger question like "have you regretted taking up PTPTN loan" ?
I will. Each time I try to pay PTPTN debt. I have skipped lots of PTPTN loan repayment as you can see the screenshot above me at an amounts RM5000 and I have tried very hard to meet the criteria.

Everyone has different committed monthly repayment amount mine is just RM 183.00. Since I have skipped so many times paying and accumulated so much overdue might as well just pay RM 200.00

PTPTN FPX

In the second page, you will be prompted to enter your personal email account and choose the bank you like to pay with.

Everything is perfectly fine. Type your Username and wait till the yours chosen image come out and safely put your password and enter.

Besides, you will need your mobile phone on your side and power turned on. On the screen insert the code for confirmation of payment from your bank to PTPTN department.

Any payment comes a receipt even a payment done through Internet. In any case of asking you to show a payment receipt there you have it saving in your computer.

It really delightful to see PTPTN website has been getting a new interface displaying so many important details than the previous interface. As you can see above, the advantages of paying through FPX is it is instantly updated after payment is done.

Have you use JomPAY ? There is no cost but it take time to process at least 3 days of business hours. There are so many ways paying up your PTPTN debts and remember to do so, as there are so many other Malaysian struggle to get loan for their studies. PTPTN must prevail !

10 Reasons AirBnb is Better in Malaysia

Robert's Google+

1. Complain directly to the host

If you have something to say about the stay the person you encounter most likely is the host rather than an employee who is just writing down all your complains and pass it to their superior. Or worse, you will never get an employee replies and the manager phone is always "on hold".

2. Improve Economic in a Country

The people who use Airbnb will eventually benefit as they can market their unused properties for a value in the accommodation demand. What if Airbnb could help individual pay off a quarter of the housing loan solving the loan default crisis in a country ? Airbnb provides an option for those who in dire need. It is more like an option than a solution because certain rules and regulation needed to be followed by the Airbnb host.

3. The shared economy

Airbnb sound more affordable, accountable, transparent and simple. It does not sound luxury unless the user end up picking up a luxury one listed in Airbnb. In fact, Airbnb allows the power of values return to the population rather than small group of hotels.

To make it clear in a listing.

Budget hotels pricing range            RM 60 - RM 150.
4 stars hotel pricing range              RM100 - RM 300
5 stars hotel pricing range              RM300 - RM 1000
Airbnb allows the lowest price dependent of location as low as RM40

If you think you do not need those 4 and 5 star hotel's swimming pool, breakfast buffet, bathroom amenities, the professional staff greeting you you should just book a room with Airbnb. The more room in the market than the demand will surely drag the price down to a certain price.

4. Bring own amenities

Amenities in hotels are just overly charged especially those 5-stars hotel / resort. Just bring your own toothbrush, toothpaste, clothes detergent, shampoo and shaver. There are already too much plastic in the world !

5. Review & Rating

The most important features in Airbnb would be allowing the host giving out feedback to the guests. In a event guest did something seriously wrong, the host able to put a bad remarks on the guest profile. Alerting the other Airbnb host should the guest make another booking.

The traditional way would be the guests leaving all the good and bad remarks in a particular website not owned by the hotel itself. In Airbnb, it work the same way.

6. Security

In Airbnb, the host recognized all the guests and immediately recognize those who are not the guests.
All the facilities in the compound were strictly forbidden for outsiders.

7. Payment by Paypal

paypal Malaysia to AIrbnb

Now you can use Paypal as your payment processor in Airbnb in case your credit card is maxed. For your information, local bank RHB is one of the Paypal business affiliated. You could easily top up Paypal balance and use that balance to pay your stay in Airbnb.

8. No Overbooking

Anything can go wrong during the peak season. In the midst of it, this app could be your life savior when all the hotels are fully booked. In many cases, Airbnb could never allow such occurrence due to the availability is well taken care of by the host.

9. Rules

There is a reason why most of the Airbnb hosts in Malaysia put the shoes rack in a very obvious way. A good host always follow certain codes. Something like no noisy after 12PM for the sake of neighbor ?

10. Join the Airbnb community

Get closer with the world. Chat with the host, feel the connection ! sometimes we just need a simple and comfort room.

7 Reasons and Memories of Labor Day

Robert's Google+

Appreciates the International Worker Day

There was an article in Wechat few years back depicting China's labor Day. There was not many impressive words in it, but, there was a strong picture in it about an old lady wearing a farmer hat in a tea plantation showing scarred both hands.

So I thought to myself What if I could have my version of appreciating labor day in Malaysia. That will be so cool right ? Their work make our life better and has been underrated and under appreciative from the public.

To the young readers, you might not understand about the importance of labor day before you enter the workforce in Malaysia. However, it is equally important to know beforehand all the rules.

Road Maintenance officer

1. EIGHT HOURS A DAY

To be honest, workers in Malaysia generally follows the Asian way. we do not clock in on 08.00 in the morning and clock out on 17.00 pm. Most of us work more than 8 hours and compensated with overtime pay !

It always compensation come first. As if we had a choice ? It is significant to know an employee should work 8 hours a day and no longer. In the event work more than 8 hours, the employee should be compensated.

The image depicts road maintenance is undergoing it is important the worker has to work odd hours completing the road before dawn.

2. Public Holiday on May 1

This is just another normal working day for some people. The best part is those who work on labor day get compensated as much as triple the pay. For those white collar, they get a mandatory day off.

There was a story about there was one boy asked by class teacher what he wants to become, his answer is a garbage man because they work just one day in a week. We always thought job pick us for our skills and our academic performance. Some jobs out there are just pure dedication and spirit of volunteer.

3. The Extra Miles

The rainy day is causing havoc on Pavilion roof top dining area. Worker are tirelessly cleaning up the mess before anyone slip down. Lots of workers dispatched to the scene some of them were not scheduled to clean the area.

4. Enforce Public Order

Without them, the supposed public parking lot is home parking with no charge. 3 Officers in suit are recklessly sending out penalty bills to those luxury sedan owners without parking ticket on the windscreen.

Do not forget we have problem finding parking lots right ? Start appreciate their excellent deeds

5. Crisis

Malaysia is not safe from water and drought crisis. Who are going to water all the plants in the city ? Without a proper measures, all the beautiful flowers withered quickly before the next rainfall. What is more scary is that, we may need to regrow the plant in the city with more taxpayer money than hiring someone water the flowers

6. Huge Impact on Environmental change

No one understands about environmental impact than the generation millennial. We are expose to so many wicked consequences of human throwing plastics the wrong way. We may have plastic ease our life, but, it certainly destroying those who think plastic is a food and clogging our drain system causing lost of millions in taxpayer money

Due to the sheer hard work of this uncle, though this uncle does not collect plastic, he is more fond on collecting carton boxes and styrofoam. But still, it helps the environment in a very meaningful way

7. September is labor day

In fact, Asian people are surprised some countries celebrates labor day in the month of September.
Most of the restaurants in Malaysia is open for business to serve the demand of good food particularly the McDonald's.

During labor day, the service associates in any restaurantin Malaysia will receive a heavy workload due to the surge of customers. In the end of the day, they are compensated with special day rate in their salary at the end of the month

Perhaps, One day you will learn to show gratitude towards them in many ways for their sacrifices. If you did not share it out today,  today is not the day you started appreciating them. (Not seriously) Happy Labor Day to everyone !

First Time User Airbnb in Malaysia

Robert's Google+

Airbnb is more like a choice.

The consumer choose in the free market. Recently, there was an article bashing Airbnb stealing business of budget hotels in Malaysia. Yes, the few business operators are very angry because there were fewer guests in their hotel. The summary of the article is the expenses of tax, employee salary and utilities bill are higher compared to setting up a room with Airbnb.

It was absurd to say Grab and Uber took all the taxi business in this beloved country. The same goes to Airbnb and the hotel industry. I prefer the newspaper or the complainant to use more formal word from "stealing" to "slowing down". I believe there are lots of Malaysian and tourists love to stay at budget hotel due to strategic location ?

It is not a rocket science the accommodation demand is pretty much upward unless there would be an outbreak anytime soon even that is not stopping the ever-growing demand.. Airbnb might have solved the ordinary people's unused inventory. Perhaps, Airbnb is just taking it deserved market share.

Airbnb is such a decent app to try out ! There are lots of possibility in it. I guess the right thing to do with it is exploring new territory and keep it under budget. I never visited Ipoh before, so I thought to myself it open up a chance to use Airbnb.

I could just find any budget hotels located at Ipoh but, the walk-in rate is vary and it could be fully booked. Budget hotels were sometimes not listed in major travel website due to it ratings. Hotel always synonymous with luxury room for family and group.

The truth is for tourism industry in the world particularly Malaysia, the agency namely booking.com or expedia get special room rates for group tour. Anyone book with them always come in a package like "more than one person". The main point are what if I am travelling solo and what if I like walk-in ?

The industry has been favoring group tour since the beginning. It is like you are buying bulk, I will see you cheaper. If you just buy one of those, you are gonna get rip-off price. Those are the standard operation procedure for 4 stars and 5 stars rating hotel.

Then somehow a solution to those "YOLO" (you only live once) travelers that would be homestay or budget hotel. To be honest, most of them do not really offer breakfast and not listed widely on Internet.

Beside luxury resort, high rating hotels and budget hotels, we could choose a much more simple, transparent and fun way engage our accommodation needs in the year 2017. Airbnb does not charge us more than it should and the rate determined by the host. Furthermore, we get the chance to engage a conversation with the host rather than in a position of being a guest getting a conversation with an associate with company code.

Most of us could utilize Airbnb app as if our core purpose is to spend quality time connecting with the local and learning their culture rather than accepting all the unnecessary service provided by the hotel such as breakfast and room service. We get the chance to get our breakfast at nearest restaurant and wash our own cloth with local detergent rather than expensive laundry service from the hotels.

If you are planning on using Airbnb, a quick reminder we might need to bring our toothbrush and toothpaste.

You might ask question like "How to pay to the host through Airbnb" ? A suggestion to all Malaysian who wanted to try Airbnb is using the available payment method which is Paypal.

I am planning to use Airbnb as much as I can in the future of my endeavor on next unexplored territory in Malaysia. For instance, Melaka and Sarawak.

You could try sign up and earn travel credit too ! Here is the link >> Airbnb Sign Up Now

Visit Ipoh & Join Starwalk 2017

Robert's Google+

Visiting Ipoh, Perak for the first time in conjunction participating Ipoh Starwalk 2017.

I cant stop thinking of participating in a marathon. It was my 2017 resolution to join Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2017. However, the marathon pass sold out in just 4 days. To be honest, I even miss the early bird pass. I have tried calling all the charity groups soliciting for marathon pass but there was no return call.

No SCKLM 2017, no problem. Putting all focus on Ipoh, Perak instead. Hope get to mingle some good Ipoh folks there. One of the reason why I really into Starwalk because the event is organized by Thestar, one of my favorite English newspaper of all time. Second is New Straits Times.

Starwalk 2017

It is relatively a short distance. Anyone could finish the race It is shockingly only cost RM13.00 per person.

I never been to Perak's Ipoh before. As a Malaysian, I am really curious what is happening on other state. I believe we should carry a self-imposed duty to be more understanding the people living in Malaysia.

Starwalk definitely not just an ordinary marathon due to the size of sponsors and support from the state authority.

In this trip, accommodation and transportation is done by Airbnb and Grab.

There will be another review of the marathon event. Stay tuned !
