Grab disrupted Taxi business offering exorbitant fares. Consumer are the biggest winner. Taxi market are now much more balanced without too much taxi on the road and too expensive for average people as consumer shifted to e-hailing as they always know e-hailing is for the good of next generation.

 


The paradigm shift did not encourage more taxi to use metered fare. Consumer felt cheated as Taxi quotes unrealistic fare price.



Without emergence of Grab, there will be more taxi on the road, more unsustainable fare quote, probably more Traumatized consumer and Sad Tourists. But with Grab, there will be competition for Uber, metered fare quote, job creation for food delivery and ride-hailing.



Despite all that, today we are not going to talk about Grab listed on NASDAQ in USA. Today, we are going to talk about Grab's first digital bank in Malaysia.

Grab X Singtel X Kuok Brothers were the talk of the town. Will Digital Bank provides value added service to Consumer much more than traditional bank ?? Instead of initial deposit of RM500 to open a bank account in a traditional bank, it seem like GX Digital Bank have the technological capability and resources opening a savings account without the need to be physical presence and in contact with bank staff.

As i ponder, did the traditional banks have been earning too much profits ? In fact, they do earn lots of money and the best and brightest often wanted to secure a job in a bank. Having a Digital Bank in the market somehow make us less dependent on the "Too big to fail" organization. 



There are so much competition in this Digital Banks. Just to name a few, Aeon Bank, Boost Bank even the Touch N Go have some similarity.

Never in my Life I have a Bank card with a Cash Back Feature. I just need to try it out in local store buying some body soap. 


Honestly, Grab as a company does not earn lots of profit based on their stock market performance in USA. Their brands and values however, bring enormous impact to other people lives. 




Coronavirus Lockdown at Kuala Lumpur

At the height of coronavirus, i found myself staying at Kuala Lumpur. The city i adore very much. I took a rest and went too far as much as six months of unemployment. Technically, no one was looking for jobs anyways. I am not living on any unemployment benefit though nor any help from any sources. 

Everyone can live in Kuala Lumpur during the good times right ?? How about living in Kuala Lumpur "At the height of Covid 19 pandemic" just like the title suggests


This is the best time living in Kuala Lumpur amid prevalence of Covid 19. Be able to witnessed the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur fought Coronavirus disease.



The city get so quiet and much lesser cars on the road. Although everyone stay at home, food delivery business were still operable.


All the zombie movie fans out there or those believe in the end of time. I got good news for all of you. You get what you wish for all this time and they have been listening. The pandemic measures are likened to a hollywood zombie movie. 


The pandemic landed unexpectedly. I find it ironic that no one actually celebrating as we get what we wish for. An once in your lifetime to experience weeks of isolation and despair.

The situation was a little bit intense when authorities announced Enhanced version of movement control order. Barbed wire were used to block certain area deemed red zone !


I never believe Coronavirus will be the end of humankind. I have high hope it will be just 1 month event. Just like the bird flu H1N1 we had in the recent past. 


However, It proved to be very wrong as World Health Organization (WHO) announced the pandemic is over after 3 years. Do you see the similarity in 1918 flu pandemic ? We can safe to say it boldly


                       Coronavirus 2020 - 2023


Back to myself, what i did believe was that it could somehow infected me somewhere at the airport. So i made a decision not to go back to my parents home as it take an airflight to go there.


As if i did went back to my parent house and mistakenly with the disease, the consequences will be just unbearable.





Surgical mask become a viral product and a necessity. Anyone without a mask were prohibited to enter premises such as Shopping Mall or public transportation. 


Look closely to the imagery, 10 pieces of mask were selling at rm9.90. Rm1 for 10 masks. 


Instead of going back, i explore the city in hope that one day, everything is going to be fine. What i found in the city were Malaysian authorities were trying very hard to develop Kuala Lumpur. 



Social distancing were easy as everyone were wary of going out. 



If Coronavirus disease is a great lesson will it strike us 2 times in our lifetime ?


I hope we will be more prepared like got myself 5 years of saving to ward off any famine situation.

Coronavirus is over.

I remember vividly during the ramadan month, charity groups were sending out meals and drinks. As one of the recipient, i wanted to say thanks you very much !

I probably would run out of Luck. I dont think  will ever meet the same nice people again at Kuala Lumpur.


As for about me flying back to parent home, i will firmly reject any possible contact with my family. So no airport and no family. Just me and my backpack.



1 Month before Covid 19 Pandemic at Singapore

I think the Covid 19 Measures had destroyed more life than the illness. Is it worth it ? Is the outcome yield better without Covid 19 Measures ?

On 16 March 2020, the day Malaysian authorities implemented movement control order, there were huge stock market movement and it could have been a crash in stock market.

The only legal way to get outside during the pandemic was getting infected and being sent to quarantine facility. Everyone advised to stay indoor as much as possible !

Mention about new outdoor activity, the compulsory vaccine is a great activity too !

Don't let all the fancy hotels and restaurants took all your attentions. The best thing about Genting Highlands are the well-maintained road leading up to Genting Grand. Take a walk and feel the Highlands low pressure air.

The low pressure air retains less heat from the sun. Creating a cooling effect plus the wind hitting your face just not something you can feel at lowlands.

1 Share of Amazon is RM500 + after Stock Split


On June 8, 2022, Amazon the e-commerce giant performed stock split 1 to 20 . Amazon pre stock split is so expensive to retail investors at USD2000 ++ each share.

In order to participate the financial roller coaster of USA stock market, I need to have at least Rm600 to buy a single Amazon stock as a retail investor.

To achieve that I have an account with Rakuten Trade. They in recent years have been promoting USA stock market. A good platform for retail investors. Leave a comment if you know any platform does a fantastic job to secure market share in retail investors. 

In a rising of USD to MYR, it is much more expensive now to trade. 4.4 Ringgit to 1 USD is really high compared to past currency performance we used to have like 3.5 Ringgit to 1 USD.

Let hope currency will not have any large fluctuation in the future. We might stand to lose 40 percents just by currency exchange. Let say currency strengthened in MYR, when we perform stock selling, Rakuten Trade will automatically convert the currency to MYR. 

The good future for retail investors are Amazon stock price sky rocketed and Ringgit remained weakened or lower like 5 MYR to 1 USD.

As a retail investors with limited fund and limited knowledge in stock market, there is no need to put all the eggs in one basket. 

The last Amazon stock split was year 1999 before dot com bubble in the year 2000. I was just in primary school. After the bubble, Yahoo stock never recovered. In fact, Yahoo was quite a huge household brand I still remember the giant search engine till today.

Stock market is a risky to invest with a good return. If you don't invest, nothing will happen but if you do, stay investing and enjoy the ride !!
