Proof of RM 20 Rebate for Electricity Bill

Robert's Google+

Effective since 2008, RM 20 is waived if you are using lesser than 100 KWH a month

There is no release of information how many household are using less than 110 KWH a month. Certainly, many would have asked how was it like to be in the situation living under RM 20 electricity bill. Surely, many would question whether there is a solid proof the implementation of RM 20 subsidy was a successful or a failure ??

The electricity hike was all started on 2008. The year financial collapse in western world. If you ask what really affect globally as a result of the financial crisis in 2008, the obvious would be our electricity tariff. It was a chain reaction ?? I cant tell you that because I am no professor in this field. Observe carefully our electricity tariff increased year-on-year basis. When will it stopped ??

It affected everywhere you go there is no escaping even in Malaysia. The excuse was because the increase of the price material using to generate our power. How much increase and what materials were they using ?? It seem like there is no stopping it until the material price stabilize. Tomorrow our electricity tariff might changed in an upward trend. I heard TNB is going to increase again the news was reported in June 2014.

To be able hitting below 110 KWH will make life uneasy. The reality is that most of us used up 110 KWH. Can you survive living with one refrigerator, light and fan turned on for 30 days?? No television, electric water boiler and most importantly no air-conditioner for hot weather and air purifier for polluted city.

In 2013, trusted source said there were 1.1 million benefited by this exemption. 146 million have been spent by the government for this exemption.

Example of waived payment to SESB. Exemption applied once balance below RM20. One still get bill every month showing current electricity consumption

Sabah Electricity Tariff is lower than West Malaysia

Robert's Google+

There are difference in SESB and TNB. SESB is Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd while TNB is Tenaga Nasional Berhad.

Sabah electricity vs TNB electricity tariff 2014

There were large usage of electricity during May 2014. There is a report said the highest in country history due to the current hot weather and dry spell. TNB general manager Omar Sidek said Malaysia recorded power usage of 16,583 MW on May 28.

Usage of electricity from 2 PM to 5 PM remained at peak every day. Experts warned everyone of us lowering the electricity consumption at that period. For example, regulating air conditioning between 23 and 25 Celsius, do ironing at night or washing machines and boil water during off peak periods. Besides, there were an advice on factories to operate machines at night rather than at day.

Our power management in Malaysia could be proved weak due to our electricity tariff policy is not strengthen enough. In South Korea, they have this seasoned tariff rate. On the peak period, the electricity tariff is slightly higher as for off peak period the electricity tariff is charged lower. Our electricity tariff is calculated based on fixed rate.

SESB Electricity Bill for 2014

In order to change factory operator mind, we need to polish our electricity tariff to help factory operator have a thought to operate at night rather than at day light. Despite that, studying the chart above Sabah electricity is cheaper than TNB the company controlling power supply at west Malaysia.

The chart above is leaned on home consumer rather than business. Business were using different tariff and will slightly lower favoring the business in Malaysia. Those who use more than 700 kwh as a consumer rather than business will be charge at RM 0.54 more or less. Not to mention there will be 1.6 % borne by consumer if their electricity tariff hit 301 KWH.

New Electricity tariff has been revised and imposed effective on January 1, 2014. Many people had experienced hike in their electricity bill. There were reasons behind all these. It is complicated to explain and understandable by most of us. So, we were being educated how to conserve electricity.

Moreover, it is a wrong perception that the new electricity tariff affected business in Malaysia the most. If you look at that the TNB or SESB website, there were two different tariff one is for business and the other one for business. In fact, home electricity tariff is more expensive than business operator. Businesses in Malaysia should not make excuses to increase their price without doing extensive research.

Recent news from our national power company that in 2014, we will need to bear another increasing in electricity bill. Yeah ! in the name of subsidy rationalization they have rendered the old tariff chart. Check back the news there is a new tariff chart effective in January 2014.

Summary 2008 electricity chart for 600kWh

500kWh * 0.286/kWh = RM 143.00
100kWh * 0.37/kWh   = RM 37.00

Total : RM 180

Summary 2011 electricity chart for 600kWh

First 200kWh (1-200 kWh) per month : (200*21.80)/100 = RM 43.60
Next 100kWh (201 - 300 kWh) per month : (100*33.40)/100 = RM 33.40
Next 100kWh (301 - 400 kWh ) per month : (100*40.0)/100 = RM 40.00
Next 100kWh (401 - 500 kWh ) per month : (100*40.2)/100 = RM 40.20
Next 100kWh (501 - 600kWh ) per month : (100*41.6)/100 = RM 41.60

Next 300kWh (301 - 600 kWh)  per month : (100*51.60)/100 = RM 154.80

Total : RM 231.80

Question & Answers

How much increase between 2008 and 2011 in 600 kWh ?

RM198.80 - RM180 = RM 18.8 . Approximately 10% increase between 2008 and 2011.

How much increase between 2011 and 2014 in 600 kWh ?

RM 231.80 - RM 198.80 = RM 33.0. Approximately 16% increase between 2008 and 2011.

How much increase 2008 till 2014 ?

26 % increase for 600 kWh within 6 years.

National power company done good work in implementing this chart. The first 200kWh tariff have the lowest charge in Malaysian history compared to 2010 electricity tariff rate at RM 0.28 . At RM 0.218 per kWh, household in Malaysia could save up a lot .

If your electricity never go up to 90kWh per month you will be entitled governemnt subsidy of RM 20.00. That means household who use lesser than 90kWh no need to pay anything at all !

In my research, household with air-conditioner and heavy power consumption machinery, their bill is no escaping from 400 kWh - 700 kWh.

TNB claims 70% population is not affected by 2014 Electricity Tariff

Robert's Google+

70% is more than half population will not affected by Electricity tariff change that will be effective January 2014.

2014-electricity tariff-TNB

In line with government initiative reducing energy subsidies, Tenaga Nasional Berhad introduce new tariff in order to materialised the government's subsidy rationalisation programme.

TNB further claimed that there are no increase in eletricity bill for most of the Malaysia population. It is clearly stated that the RM20 rebate from government is still in effective and not being taken out by the introduction of new electricity tariff.

The pricing system being adopted by Malaysia electricity department is fairly easy to be understand. Those who are taken least electricity consumption will pay lower than those who use more than 200kwh per month. Besides, those who have RM20 bill will be included as a government subsidy which translate as no monthly electricity bill

Research shows that :

  •  50% population using less than 200kwh electricity consumption. Charges is 21.8sen for 200kWh
  • 20% uses more than 200kWh charging up to 33.40sen
Comparing 2011 electricity tariff rate,  there is no changes of rate if implementation of 2014 electricity tariff. Lesser electricity consumption will resulting lower rate. the lowest rate will be 21.8sen. more info at 2011 tariff and 2014 tariff

Above illustration could be true or false. the house being displayed have used more than 800kWh a month. As you can see the new bill affect heavily on those use more than 300kWh electricity consumption monthly. the difference prices between old tariff and new tariff is RM62.73

It is rest assured to say the impact of new electricity tariff is not targeting most of us. So, who are the one will be impacted the most by this new implementation?

According to the TheStar news agency, it reported that most of the time shopping mall operator suffers the most because the fact to run a shopping mall, single and biggest expenditure derives from electricity bill. Representative of Malaysia Shopping mall Association and Highrise complex Management President H.C.Chan said 16% increase in industrial category electricity tariff was too steep and the shopping mall operator would have to pass down the increased costs to consumers, which would lead to inflation.

National's Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili commented on 2014 electricity tarff, consumption of electricity not pass 300kWh will not be impacted by new tariff.

Besides, consumer spend 300kWh and below the price is ranging from Rm43-Rm77 capped. 300kWh-400kWh, the fee need to be paid ranging from Rm77.52 - RM128.60 . formerly the price is Rm77.48 - RM117 capped. In other words, it is ideal using between 200kWh - 300kWh for no further increase electricity bill. The bill will be capped on RM77.

Unitedmy comments on electricity tariff 2014 - I am looking forward how industrial and commercial cope with this electricity bill increase. I think every price tag of goods and service will be increase. Inflation is a good tool to wipe out poverty stricken family and enrich companies by the name of progression nation and national agenda.
